Group 22 Re-engages the EMCC of Lake County

On December 2 2009, Captain Joe Long attended the Emergency Management Coordinating Council of Lake County. This group consists of different emergency response agencies in Lake County. Although Lt. Col. Mike Rafferty has been attending regularly in the past, the December meeting was the first in which a member of Group 22 staff attended. The meeting was productive and a new interest in Civil Air Patrol capabilities was established.

The EMCC was briefed on recent CAP missions and exercises, as well as the delivery of our newest aircraft. Members of the EMCC had questions about CAP communications capability with different agencies, and the possibility of using CAP aircraft as an aerial surveillance and communication platform during the spring flooding.

Group 22 staff will remain engaged with this group. We intend to educate them on the role of the Civil Air Patrol, beyond the ELT search, to include our role in Disaster Relief and other capabilities.
